Metal and Wooden Gates

Wooden, Aluminium & Steel Gates in Glasgow, Edinburgh & Scotland

A1 Automatic Gates designs, fabricates, supplies and installs metal gates, wooden gates, aluminium gates and steel gates for customers in Glasgow, Edinburgh and across Scotland. From garden entrances and traditional wooden driveway gates to metal driveway gates and fully automated electric driveway gates, each gate can be made to suit the property and entrance.

Our range includes contemporary and traditional designs, with options for swing and sliding gates. Gates can be installed as manually operated entrances or combined with gate automation to create automatic driveway gates where required.

All our metal gates are custom made to order and fabricated in our workshop. Once manufacturing is complete, steel gates can be galvanised to help protect the metal against weather damage before being powder coated in your choice of colour, with more than 100 colour options available.

When your new gates are ready, our installation team will fit them at your property and show you how to operate the system. Where electric gates are installed, remote controls or key fobs can provide convenient access without having to leave your vehicle to manually open the gates.

Steel Gates

Steel gates can be manufactured in a wide variety of designs, from straightforward driveway entrances to more decorative applications.

A1 fabricates steel gates to order at its workshop. The finished gates can be galvanised using hot molten zinc at 450 degrees to help preserve the metal against weather damage, followed by powder coating to provide the required finish.

Steel also allows the gate design to be coordinated with metal railings where you want a consistent appearance across the entrance and adjoining boundary.

Aluminium Gates

Aluminium gates provide another option for customers looking for metal driveway gates. A1 supplies and installs aluminium gate systems, including designs that can be incorporated into electric and automatic entrances.

The appropriate material will depend on the appearance you want, the gate design and the practical requirements of the entrance. If you are comparing aluminium gates with steel or timber, A1 can discuss the available options before the gate is manufactured and installed.

Wooden Driveway Gates

Wooden gates offer a different appearance from steel or aluminium and can work particularly well where a traditional or more natural finish complements the property.

A1 manufactures made-to-measure wooden driveway gates using timber selected for the required gate design. Options can range from garden gates to larger driveway entrances, with the finished design tailored to the individual property.

Timber does require more ongoing maintenance than metal and can be affected by changing weather conditions over time. These practical differences are worth considering alongside appearance when choosing between wooden gates and metal gates.

Wooden gates can also form part of an automated entrance where the gate and proposed automation are suitable for the application.

Automatic Driveway Gates

Automatic driveway gates combine a made-to-measure entrance with powered gate automation, allowing you to open and close the gates without manually operating them each time.

Depending on the entrance, this may involve automated swing gates, underground automation or sliding gates. The available space, gate construction and opening arrangement all influence which approach is appropriate.

Electric driveway gates can also be combined with intercoms and access control where you need to manage visitor entry as well as operate the gates remotely.

Whether you prefer wooden, steel or aluminium gates, planning the gate and automation together allows the complete entrance to be designed around how you intend to use it.

Metal and Wooden Gates Manufactured and Installed

As well as aluminium and steel gates, A1 manufactures, installs and repairs wooden and metal gates. From our workshop on the outskirts of Glasgow, we create bespoke, made-to-measure gates in steel, aluminium or timber for different types of property and entrance. The choice between metal and wooden gates is not simply about appearance. The size and layout of the entrance, how the gates need to open, ongoing maintenance and whether you want manual or automated operation can all influence the right approach. For driveway entrances, options include wooden driveway gates, metal driveway gates, electric driveway gates, sliding gates and automatic driveway gates. A1 can discuss these requirements before manufacturing begins so that the gate is designed around the property and intended use.
